| Abstract | ||
| Online gaming addiction has emerged as a concerning phenomenon in the context of adolescent developmental psychology and behavior in the modern world. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of emotional self-regulation training on Hidden anxiety and self-control among adolescents dependent on online gaming. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The statistical population consisted of male students in grades 10 to 12 in Gorgan city who were dependent on online gaming during the 2024–2025 academic year. A total of 30 adolescents were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to an experimental group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). The research instruments included the Wang and Chang Online Gaming Questionnaire (2010), the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (1970), and the Tangney Self-Control Scale (2004). The experimental group received eight 60-minute sessions of emotional self-regulation training, while the control group received no psychological intervention until the end of the study. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) with SPSS version 26. The findings indicated that, after controlling for pretest effects, there were significant differences between the experimental and control groups in posttest scores of Hidden anxiety and self-control among adolescents dependent on online gaming (p<.001). The results suggest that emotional self-regulation training significantly reduces Hidden anxiety and enhances self-control in adolescents addicted to online gaming. | ||
