چکیده | ||
The effect of high levels of glibenclamide on performance, carcass characteristics, blood parameters, immunity, intestinal microbial flora, intestinal morphology and breast muscle fatty acid profile in broiler diets was investigated. 120 One-day-old broiler chickens (n = 120) of commercial strain Ross 308 were randomly distributed into three treatments, each with 4 replications including 10 chickens in each pen. Experimental treatments included 0, 75 and 100 mg/kg of glibenclamide. Data analysis was accomplished using SAS statistical software with comparison of averages at 5% probability level using Duncan's multiple range test. Chickens were fed with diets based on corn and soybean meal. The results indicate that the use of different concentrations of glibenclamide in any of the rearing periods did not affect performance (P≥0.05), but the highest feed consumption, weight gain, and the best conversion rate were observed in periods 1 to 10, 22 to 42 and 1 to 42 days for 75 mg/kg concentrations of glibenclamide. Also, lower production cost (P≥0.05) and the best European production index (P≥0.05) was observed when 75 mg/kg glibenclamide was fed. Feeding glibenclamide did not affect chicken carcasses characteristics (P≥0.05) except that abdominal fat (P≥0.05) was reduced when 75 mg/kg glibenclamide was fed. Feeding glibenclamide at 75 mg/kg (P<0.05) reduced cholesterol, triglycerides, VLDL, LDL and total protein, whereas feeding 100 mg/kg increased HDL. Except for SRBC35, feeding glibenclamide had no effect on humoral immune system in response to antigen injection (SRBC antibody against sheep red blood cell). The highest relative weight of lymphatic organs was observed with 100 mg/kg glibenclamide (P≥0.05). Glibenclamide fed at 75 mg/kg reduced the number of Escherichia coli (P<0.05) and increased the number of lactobacillus acidophilus (P≥0.05). Villi length and crypt depth increased with 75 mg/kg glibenclamide compared with the control. The ratio of saturated to unsaturated fatty acids was reduced with 75 mg/kg of glibenclamide. The results of this trial indicate that feeding of glibenclamide has positive effects on performance, carcass characteristics, blood parameters, immunity, intestinal flora, intestinal morphology and fatty acid profile, this feed additive can be used as a substitute for antibiotics. | ||
