| چکیده | ||
| Fear is commonly understood as a psychological emotion or a response to perceived threat. Although the Bhagavad Gītā has been extensively studied in relation to duty, liberation, and devotion, its philosophical treatment of fear has received comparatively limited sustained attention. Employing the Philosophy of Fearism as a contemporary hermeneutic framework, this paper offers a close philosophical reading of the Gītā to examine the relationship between fear (bhaya), fearlessness (abhaya), and moral agency. It argues that Arjuna's battlefield paralysis reflects a conflict of fears: fear of moral transgression and social disgrace, fear of killing kin and abandoning svadharma, and fear arising from uncertainty regarding the consequences of action. The Gītā responds to this crisis not by advocating the elimination of fear but by transforming the agent's orientation through jñāna (self-knowledge), karma yoga (disciplined action without attachment to outcomes), and bhakti (existential trust). From this perspective, abhaya is best understood not as the absence of fear but as the cultivation of a stable hierarchy of concerns that enables responsible action under conditions of vulnerability and uncertainty. The article's original contribution lies in reconstructing the Gītā's implicit philosophy of fear as a model of fear transformation and disciplined moral agency, while demonstrating conceptual affinities with key insights of Fearism without claiming historical anticipation. By bringing classical Indian philosophy into dialogue with contemporary discussions of emotion, agency, and practical reasoning, this study contributes to cross-cultural philosophy of emotion and highlights the continuing relevance of the Bhagavad Gītā for philosophical counselling and ethical life | ||
