| چکیده | ||
| Pragmatism, as one of the influential philosophical approaches in educational management, emphasizes the practical effectiveness of beliefs and theories. This article, primarily drawing on the ideas of John Dewey, William James, and other scholars, examines the theoretical foundations and applications of pragmatism in educational management and seeks to identify the advantages and limitations of this approach within the field of educational administration. The central argument of this article is that, from a pragmatic perspective, the value of any idea depends on its practical consequences, and truth is not regarded as a fixed and absolute entity; rather, it is constructed through experience and interaction with the environment. Accordingly, educational management based on a pragmatic approach can offer significant benefits compared with previous managerial approaches. According to this perspective, adopting pragmatic thinking enables educational managers to move beyond a merely administrative role and become facilitators, learning leaders, and agents of effective change. It also transforms schools into learning organizations in which teachers and students achieve continuous improvement through interaction, reflection, and practical experimentation—an idea strongly emphasized in John Dewey’s pragmatic educational philosophy. However, the pragmatic approach also faces several limitations, including relativism regarding ethical and religious values, the absence of fixed criteria and excessive variability in decisions, strong dependence on managers’ abilities and skills, difficulties in evaluating long-term educational outcomes such as morality and responsibility, and the possibility of short-term objectives overshadowing long-term, quality-oriented, and equity-based educational goals. The article concludes that, despite the high effectiveness of pragmatism in addressing real and dynamic challenges within educational systems, its successful implementation requires managers with strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills. Furthermore, it should be accompanied by a critical perspective and careful consideration of ethical and long-term concerns in order to prevent falling into the traps of relativism and short-term decision-making. | ||
